Here at Ward Melville High School, students tend to look only at the bigger sports stars: the quarterback of the football team, or the power forward of the basketball team. They overlook other players on the the same field or court who don’t get as much attention but work just as hard. For September, we have an interview with one of these athletes: junior Hunter McSweeney.

Q: What sports do you play?

A: I play Football and I Wrestle.

Q: Do you favor one sport to another?

A: Yes, I prefer football over any other sport since I’ve been playing it for a very long time.

Q: Regarding football, what position do you play and what do you think you bring to the team?

A: I play defensive nose, tackle and offensive guard. I help push others into doing better and I help my teammates with plays and block if they’re unsure.

Q: What’s your main motivation to play? What goals do you and your team wish to achieve by the end of the season?

A: Some of my motivations that I use to keep on playing are college, general enjoyment of the game, and of course my incredible teammates. We are a band of brothers, we fight for each other and put all of our hard work on display on that field. Our goal is to reach the Suffolk County Championship.

Q: Besides sports do you have any other interests?

A: Yes, my other interests include family, school work, and what I want to do in college

Q: What are you future plans after high school? Do you plan on still playing sports at a college level?

A: My future plans includes going to college but I haven’t decided where yet and I do I plan on playing football in college because I love playing the game and I don’t see a reason why I should stop.

Best of Luck to Hunter McSweeney and Ward Melville’s Varsity Football team for the rest of the season!
