People’s Choice Awards

On December 7 the People’s Choice Awards aired on NBC with fans voting for their favorite movies, shows, music and celebrities.

Throughout the night, several movies were awarded for their excellence. The Movie of 2021 was Black Widow  which beat out Dune that was also highly popular when released. The Comedy Movie of 2021 was Free Guy, a 20th Century film about a character who discovers that his entire life has been within a video game. The Action Movie of 2021 was Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings, beating out the extremely popular Black Widow and the James Bond blockbuster No Time to Die.

Then the awards moved on to individual actors. The Male Movie Star of 2021 was Dwayne Johnson due to his work in Jungle Cruise, a movie inspired by the famous Disney Parks ride. The Female Movie Star of 2021 was Scarlett Johansson for her acting in Black Widow. The Drama Movie Star of 2021 was Kevin Hart for his role in Fatherhood, the story of a single dad raising his daughter after his wife died during childbirth. 

In terms of music artists, Lil Nas X was named the Male Artist of 2021, while Adele was named the Female Artist of 2021 following the release of her new album. Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour was named Album of the Year. Other artists such as Justin Bieber and BTS were recognized for their contributions to music during the event.

The awards show also recognized several popular shows of 2021. The Show of 2021 was Marvel’s Loki which followed the popular Avenger and his antics across time. The Drama Show of 2021 was Grey’s Anatomy which followed the life of Meredith Grey while she worked as a doctor in a hospital and dealt with daily drama. The Reality Show of 2021 was Keeping Up With The Kardashians which followed the everyday life of the Kardashians, a celebrity family. The most binge worthy show of 2021 was voted to be Squid Games.

To end the night, Simone Biles and Britney Spears were honored for overcoming large obstacles in their lives and using them as a catalyst for change in society.
