On March 16, a report from Business Insider released, detailing allegations made by an anonymous woman about famous YouTuber David Dobrik and his group, the “Vlog Squad.” The report alleged that Dobrik filmed the woman entering a bedroom with former Vlog Squad member Dom Zeglaitis, where she became involved in group sex, but she was too drunk to consent. The footage then reportedly appeared in a video on Dobrik’s YouTube channel, but was later removed at the woman’s request.

In response to the allegations, Dobrik posted a video on March 16 entitled “Let’s Talk.” In the video, Dobrik said, “Consent is something that’s super, super important to me. Whether I’m shooting with a friend or shooting with a stranger, I always make sure that whatever the video I’m putting out, I have the approval from that person. I also acknowledge that there’s times where a person can change their mind, and they decide that they no longer want to be associated, they no longer want to be in the video that I’m putting up.” Dobrik continued to come under fire because he did not directly address the accusations of rape. This video has since been deleted from Dobrik’s YouTube channel.

In a second apology video, titled “03/22/21”, which was uploaded on March 21, Dobrik directly addressed the issue of the rape accusations, saying, “I fully believe the woman who came out against Dom [Zeglaitis].”

Many companies that were previous sponsors of Dobrik’s videos have cut ties with him, including Hello Fresh, EA Sports, and HBO Max. Since the allegations have come out, Dobrik’s YouTube channel has lost over 200,000 subscribers, and he has deleted most of his videos from the past year.
