15 Seniors Recognized as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Jessica Guo

Instead of listing names, can you talk to a few students.  Ask them how they prepared, if they were suprised, does this change anything, how did their friends and families react? etc.

This September, 15 Ward Melville High School seniors were named semifinalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Out of around 1.6 million students who entered the National Merit Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT in 2015, only approximately 16,000 students were named semifinalists, representing less than 1% of American high school seniors. The 15 Ward Melville students who received the honor of being announced as a semifinalist this year will proceed in the competition, and in February of 2017, about 15,000 semifinalists will be notified that they have advanced and become finalists. Finally, from March to mid-June, 7,500 finalists will be selected to receive a Merit Scholarship award.
