The Grammy awards took place on April 3rd. They were hosted by Trevor Noah with performances from acclaimed artists such as Billie Eilish, the Foo Fighters, and BTS among many others. However, one familiar face was missing from this year’s lineup. Five time Grammy nominee Kanye West (Ye) was banned from performing at the event.

While Ye was still technically able to attend the show, his concerning online behavior led to the banning of his performance. With his recent divorce from Kim Kardashian, Ye has repeatedly attacked her new relationship with Pete Davidson on social media for driving his family apart. As of March 17th, Ye was suspended for 24 hours on Instagram for violating the app’s guidelines for harassment. In his “Eazy” music video, he violently kidnaps and buries Davidson. Kim responded to his attacks stating that she has been in a relationship with Pete for months now and has slowly been introducing him to the kids to ensure their comfort as well as to show respect for her ex-husband, Ye.

Ye did not respond to the ban, but his team released a statement saying that they were aware of the situation. While he did not attend the awards show, he won Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Hurricane” and Best Rap Song for “Jail.”
