As President-elect Joseph Biden prepares for his presidency, he has announced numerous picks for his cabinet and is expected to announce more. Many of these cabinet members are historic and diverse. As Vice President-elect Kamala Harris put it, Biden wants to create a cabinet that “looks like America.”

For Secretary of Homeland Security, Biden has chosen Alejandro Mayorkas. Mayorkas will be the first Latino to lead the Department of Homeland Security. In addition, Mayorkas is an immigrant and was one of the architects of the DACA program.

For Treasury Secretary, Biden plans to name Janet Yellen, marking the first time in the Treasury’s first female leader in its 231-year history.

Biden also named Avril Haines as Director of National Intelligence, making her the first woman in the position.

Finally, Biden has announced his plan to create a new position: Special Presidential Envoy for Climate. The position indicates the Biden administration’s intention to focus on environmental issues. Former Secretary of State John Kerry was nominated to the position.
