This past Sunday, October 25, the Ward Melville Heritage Organization (WMHO) hosted the 22nd annual Walk for Beauty in Stony Brook Village. Hundred of runners participated in the 4K/6K walk and two other additional events introduced to the walk two years ago. In 2013, Walk for Beauty added the 4K Color Splash, run by Ward Melville High School’s Key Club. WMHO  also introduced the 10K “Hercules on the Harbor” run, which is regulated by USA Track and Field. The Walk for Beauty, Color Splash, and “Hercules on the Harbor” brought participants through tranquil Stony Brook village and historic landmarks throughout Stony Brook.

At the event, families and residents of all ages joined together to raise money for breast cancer patients at Stony Brook University. Also, all proceeds from the walk go directly to a research fund dedicated to breast cancer research at Stony Brook University. Additionally, some revenue was directed to the Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s ‘Unique Boutique’ for prostheses and wigs for breast cancer patients.

Though it was a cold and rainy day, spirit of the Three Village community and their determination to raise money for a good cause were not dampered.
