New Details Emerge of Chris Cuomo’s Involvement in Brother’s Sexual Harassment Allegations
December 14, 2021
On August 24, 2021, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo resigned over several allegations of sexual harassment. His brother, Chris Cuomo, was just dismissed as CNN’s main anchor on Saturday, December 4th, 2021, after being suspended for several days. His firing from CNN came shortly after New York Attorney General Letitia James publicly disclosed papers revealing Chris Cuomo’s involvement in his brother’s scandal.
Cuomo is reported to have assisted and defended his brother in responding to sexual harassment allegations and searched for details on the women involved. Cuomo confessed in May that he had violated many cable news network regulations in order to do so. It is deemed unethical in broadcasting to use one’s personal status to argue for a personal cause or to undertake inquiries for personal purposes.
Chris Cuomo has also been accused of sexual misconduct. In September, Shelley Ross, a former colleague of Cuomo’s, detailed in an opinion piece how the television personality reportedly greeted her improperly sixteen years ago. In response to the allegations, Chris Cuomo said, “As Shelley acknowledges, our interaction was not sexual in nature,” and apologized.
Attorney Debra Katz, representing Charlotte Bennett, a healthy policy advisor, who accused Andrew Cuomo of misconduct, said, “Hearing the hypocrisy of Chris Cuomo’s on-air words and disgusted by his efforts to try to discredit these women, my client retained counsel to report his serious sexual misconduct against her to CNN.”
Chris Cuomo responded to his firing on Twitter. In his response, he said, “This is not how I want my time at CNN to end but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother.” Cuomo’s actions have been harshly criticized by the media in recent days, and CNN has confirmed that they will not pay Cuomo compensation.
Recently, Chris Cuomo announced the ending of his SiriusXM show. Shortly after, HarperCollins Publishers released a statement on how they do not plan to publish a book by Chris Cuomo.
