Don’t Blame Aaron Rogers for Wanting to Leave, Blame the Packers

May 21, 2021

News hit quickly when rumors came out about Aaron Rogers, the star quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, requesting a trade. However, it’s not hard to imagine why after the way the packers treated him.

Let’s start from the beginning- the 2020 NFL Draft. You would think that the Packers, with their first-round pick, would draft some help for Aaron Rogers, and the rest of the team, to win a super bowl.

They didn’t. Instead, they drafted former Utah State quarterback Jordan Love, Aaron Roger’s replacement. In fact, besides his replacement, the Packers have not drafted a single offensive player for Rogers in 10 years.

Even with the cards stacked against him, Rogers did what he does best, play football. He won the 2021 NFL Most Valuable Player award at 36-years-old, a sign that he isn’t going anywhere.

But yet, the team still has Jordan Love. This whole situation was characteristic of the “Packers.” In 2005, the Packers Drafted Rogers to replace Brett Farve, a current Hall Of Famer. Their hope was for Farve to help guide Rogers. This did work but this scenario is unlikely to work for Jordan Love because of the recent Rogers news.

Let’s now move to the 2021 NFC Championship Game, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs the Green Bay Packers. The Packers were down by 8 points. They were in the red zone, and it was 4th down.

Instead of giving the ball to one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, they decided to kick a field goal. In return, the Buccaneers ran the clock out and the Packers lost. They should have left the football with Rogers, as he is fantastic at prompting touchdowns and 2 point conversions from close range.

To some degree, the Packers management is also to blame. It was reported several years ago that Rogers approached the Packers’ front office to suggest incorporating some of his ideas on the field to make the team better.

The Packers essentially told Rogers to ‘shut up and play the game’ while they figure out how it will be played. This was a mistake, as the Packers haven’t made it to the Super Bowl since.

Additionally, the Packers have not offered Rogers a contract extension even after winning the MVP award. His contract expires after the 2023 season.

The Packers have disrespected Aaron Rogers, and they will regret it.
