On January 14th, the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star, Joshua Bassett, released his new single, “Lie Lie Lie.” Bassett shared this fiery, guitar-driven song with the world last Thursday.

Since “Lie Lie Lie” was released, fans have been analyzing every bit of it. “I know what you say about me… I hope that it makes you happy… You can’t seem to get me off your mind… I know you’re lying through your teeth… You told them lies that you told me… I’ve had enough of it this time,” Bassett sang. He recently wrote the hit after he “found out someone close to me had been lying about me behind my back for a long time…It always sucks to hear that someone you thought you could trust would throw you under the bus when it benefits them.” After hearing this, fans immediately assumed that Joshua was referring to Olivia Rodrigo, his possible ex-girlfriend and HSMTMTS co-star. Others questioned if this was a dig at Rodrigo after hearing Bassett sing, “You’ve been lying to yourself… Lie to everyone else.”

Rumors regarding the pair’s past started to swirl when Rodrigo released her first single, “Driver’s License.” Such lyrics – “And you’re probably with that blonde girl… Who always made me doubt…  She’s so much older than me… She’s everything I’m insecure about”- have caused fans to speculate. Who was this “blonde girl?” Many believe that Olivia is referring to Sabrina Carpenter, Bassett’s possible new girlfriend. Carpenter, American singer and actress, has not addressed these rumors.

The pair hasn’t acknowledged any theories, leaving fans speculating about their past and present relationships.
