Top Ten Healthiest Candies for Halloween
Most candies have bad reputations among health enthusiasts. These are the exceptions.
October 27, 2016
With Halloween coming up in just a matter of days, there are people that are interested in either going to a Halloween party in costume, or people that prefer the traditional option of “trick-or-treating.” In addition, there are some people who just want to greet others at the door, handing out candy in the process. But for people who are worried about excessive amounts of sugar, and fat in their diet, candy seems like a very out of place option. That may change, as seen by my top ten healthiest candies for Halloween.
- Smarties
Smarties (which may or may not actually make you smarter depending on your overall concentration after eating candy) are definitely among the healthier choices for Halloween, with each roll of candies containing only 25 calories, and 6g of sugar.
- Dum-Dum Lollipops
These innocent looking, assorted lollipops don’t have much to hide, but because of this, they’re among the best choices for Halloween, with each lollipop containing only around 25 calories, and 5g of sugar, without any fats that would build up in the bloodstream over time.
- Pretzel, and Peanut M&M’s (Fun Size)
These recent takes on the classic M&M’s have proven to be both delicious, and healthy alternatives to the regular M&M’s, with the Pretzel M&M’s cutting fat, calories, and sugar by around 30% each, and the Peanut M&M’s providing more fiber, and calcium to make up for its slightly higher calories and fat compared to the regular version.
- 3 Musketeers
Built around health, this chocolate bar holds up to its reputation, with only around 60 calories per fun size bar. However, these do contain a surprising 10g of sugar per bar, so it’s suggested to take caution if you have dietary restrictions in terms of sugar intake.
- Tootsie Rolls
Packing only 25 calories, and 3g of sugar per roll, these popular candies are indeed worth everyone’s time.
- Tootsie Pops
The world may never know the answer to the question known throughout the world thanks to this lollipop, but it will appreciate the 60 calories found in one lollipop (including the center). However, caution the 10g of sugar found…
- Nestlé Crunch Bars
The rice found within these bars that allows them to be “Crunch” bars in the first place also cuts the amount of calories per bar to 60, and the fat content in each bar to 3g. It’s sugar content is also fairly decent, at 7g.
- Kit-Kats
And on that note, the other crunchy chocolate bar is also good for your health, with each 2-piece bar featuring 70 calories, 3.6g of fat, and 9.2g of sugar.
- Nerds
Despite boasting 12g of sugar per box (with a comparable amount of wax), a box of candies with only 50 calories? Count me in!
- York Peppermint Patties
These chocolate covered mints boast in a fun size box: “I have 60 calories, 1.5g of fat, and 11g of sugar. Other than the sugar, see what you can do about that, Charlie Brown.”
