On April 21^st, 1996, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and the Chicago Bulls pulled away from the Washington Bullets to complete a miraculous 72-10 regular season. No NBA team has been able to even approach the feat since and many believed that no team would every break it— until now.

Currently sitting at 60 wins and 6 losses, the Golden State Warriors led by Stephen Curry have a chance to finally shatter the record that has stood for nearly 20 years. The Warriors achieved the best start in NBA history at 24-0, and have continued to keep pace with the 1995-96 Bulls. Now, with approximately 17 games left, it is coming down to the wire. Many sports sites are tracking and adjusting the Warrior’s chances after every game. ESPN’s BPI, a team rating system that uses everything from game scores to pace of play to project future games, currently gives the Warriors a 71% chance of winning at least 72 games, and a 46% chance of winning at least 73 games. Whether they break the record or not, the Warriors will undoubtedly finish at or near the top of the Western Conference. And let’s not forget their historically high probability of winning the NBA title: 40%.
