Lana Del Rey is an undoubtedly influential name in America’s pop-culture scene. She’s known for her hauntingly beautiful songs centered around the melancholic side of love. Del Rey is behind well-known albums such as Born to Die, Ultraviolence and Honeymoon. One of her most popular songs, “Summertime Sadness,” has over a million daily streams on Spotify.
Now, the artist is gearing up to release a new album in a new style: country. The album’s name, previously known as Lasso, has been changed to The Right Person Will Stay. On April 11, Del Rey released one of its first tracks, a song called “Henry, come on.”
As a long-time fan of the singer, I was eager to listen to the song, and it exceeded my expectations. The melody incorporates new elements from country music while simultaneously retaining the classic Lana Del Rey style. Her vocals, gentle and haunting, float above the dreamy instrumentals and softly pulsing beat.
The lyrics, though, were what left me completely entranced. Through the lyrics, Del Rey and Luke Laird (a guest songwriter) tell the poetic tale of an ex-lover, Henry. The lyrics handle a story of broken love delicately, honoring it as a fragile, fleeting and beautiful moment in time, meant to be left in the past. To me, “Henry, come on” is more than a song. It has become a reminder to enjoy the beautiful things in life without clinging to them. This song has only added to my already-present excitement for the coming album.
On YouTube alone, “Henry, come one“ has already gained nearly four million views. Fans have commented on the video, stating how they appreciate Del Rey’s unique style and authenticity, while others praise the “stunning vocals, gorgeous harmonics, and the depth and beauty you expect from [Del Rey].”
