A new era of hip-hop was ushered in as Tyler, the Creator, one of the genre’s biggest stars, dropped his latest album, Chromakopia, last Monday at six in the morning. The release of Chromakopia marks Tyler’s seventh album, following Call Me If You Get Lost three years earlier. The album features Tyler and some of the industry’s biggest rappers, including Childish Gambino, Daniel Caesar, Lil Wayne, GloRilla, Teezo Touchdown and others.
The album also features one of his best singles, “Noid,” which was released on October 21, as well as his first single on the album, “St. Chroma,” which was released on October 16 across Tyler’s social media. Throughout the album and the accompanying music videos, Tyler speaks of his consuming paranoia and other uneasy circumstances that come from him growing up and experiencing life.
The opening song, “St. Chroma,” introduces a protagonist with the same name as the title. The second song, “Rah Tah Tah,” features lyrics that boast about Tyler as one of the biggest rappers in L.A. after Kendrick Lamar. “Noid” explores the details of the anxiety that comes with fame and the celebrity label. At the same time, “Darling I” features vocals by Teezo Touchdown and contemplates his artistic ventures and the unlikelihood of him ever being in an exclusive relationship. Songs like “I Killed You” and “Judge Judy” feature appearances from Childish Gambino.
The more controversial topics come from songs such as “Hey Jane.” This song is titled after a New York City-based abortion clinic and involves a conversation between the perspectives of Tyler and another woman during the shocking news of an unplanned pregnancy.
Chromakopia is one of Tyler, the Creator’s most unique albums. His style of lyrical composition makes it one of the most creative and symbolic albums in the rap community; his music videos convey similar abstract yet substantial messages that contribute to the significance of the lyrics.
Tyler announced his Chromakopia World Tour on October 23. The tour will feature special guests Lil Yachty and Paris Texas. It will include 39 dates in the United States and Canada, 18 dates in Europe, and 7 shows in the Oceania region, including Australia and New Zealand. The tour will take place throughout 2025.
Tyler, the Creator comes to Madison Square Garden on July 14, 2025, and Barclays Center on July 17, 2025. Find tickets HERE.
