The body of 22-year-old University of Missouri student Riley Strain was found in the Cumberland River after he vanished on a night out with his fraternity brothers during their formal in Nashville and was missing for 2 weeks.
The night began with plenty of fun and energy. Photos that were sent home showed Riley grinning with his Delta Chi brothers in the electric atmosphere of Nashville’s Broadway district. Yet things took a turn when Riley was kicked out from Luke Bryan’s bar, called Luke’s 32 Bridge, for undisclosed reasons. He was last seen that night, March 8 at 9:52 p.m., and had not been heard from since.
As hours bled into the next day without a word from Riley, panic set in from his friends and family. He was reported missing, which created a desperate search by authorities and volunteers. The discovery of Riley’s debit card near the Cumberland River sent a sense of dread coursing through everyone involved.
Surveillance footage shows an unfortunate picture: Riley, clearly unsteady, stumbling alone through the streets. He briefly interacted with pedestrians and even a police officer, but there were no reports of him being in any distress.
The uncovered debit card offered a glimpse of hope that he may be found, but it was quickly extinguished. Friends, family, and volunteers searched endlessly for 2 weeks, but unfortunately, their efforts culminated in heartbreak. On the morning of March 22nd, Riley was pulled from the river by the local police department.
Nashville’s police department confirmed that there was no foul play involved, but that did not end all of the questions of loved ones and others who saw the story on the news. The circumstances surrounding Riley’s death remain a mystery, leaving his loved ones grieving and desperate for answers. An autopsy offers a sliver of hope for some kind of closure.
Riley Strain’s untimely death is a reminder of life’s impermanence and the cruel hand of fate. The Nashville community grieves with his family and friends, offering unwavering support in this darkest hour. In the wake of this tragedy, a call echoes for heightened awareness and action to prevent similar nightmares from ever unfolding again.

How about a drink with friends and refraining from intoxication? It’s not rocket science! 🤦♀️
