In California’s most prestigious neighborhoods, there have recently been numerous serious rainstorms and there are still more to come. In recent days, over 38 million people have received flood warnings caused by heavy rain in their area (Daily Mail). Neighborhoods in Malibu and Beverly Hills will likely be anticipating more rain into the following weeks (Daily Mail). So far, around 2.5 million people in the Los Angeles area have already received up to nine inches of fallen rain (Daily Mail).
These mega storms aren’t only restricted to the Southern California region, as 250,000 homes and businesses in the northern and central regions of the state have been left without power (NBC). This has been caused by the storms’ high winds knocking down trees or launching objects into power lines. Pacific Gas & Electric has deemed the storm as “the most damaging single-day weather events on record”.
On top of the environmental damage caused by California’s superstorm, there have been three deaths related to the harsh weather conditions. Chad Ensey, 41, passed away in his Sacramento home when debris fell on him during the storm, 82-year-old David Gomes passed away after being struck by a large redwood tree in Yuba City, located in northern California; an unidentified person died from injuries after a tree fell into their home in Boulder Creek, California.
