Ward Melville Lacrosse is a household name in Three Village. Their victories consistently fill local newspaper headlines from year to year. This season should be no different. The Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Teams are filled with talent, and both have already won their first three games.

The boys’ team is out for blood this year, with only one goal in mind: winning the state championship that was taken from them in the state final last year. Senior captain and starting midfielder Dom Pryor, who had a total of 6 points (4 goals and 2 assists) in yesterday’s game against Northport, explained that the team dynamic this year is right where it needs to be. Everyone seems to be focused on the same goal and their tradition of going to West Meadow after each pre-game pasta party helps build the team chemistry. Pryor shared, “The most important thing to focus on in order to be successful in games is, in general, playing smart and not giving up possession.” The next boys’ home game will be against Riverhead on Friday, April 7th at 4:30 on the turf.

With all the recent success of the boys team, we must not forget the promise the Girls’ Varsity team holds this season. Their season ended early into the playoffs last year, adding more motivation to come back and make it further in their playoff run in the upcoming season. The girls’ most recent triumph was against Smithtown East on Tuesday, April 4th. They just barely beat this team in the 2016 season but, on Tuesday Ward Melville walked off the field with a win: 17-11. They held the lead for the whole game and in the end it was clear who the stronger team was. Kaitlin Thornton, senior captain and starting attacker with 2 goals in the last game, says that the team camaraderie is strong this year. She explained, “I think that since we have all played together since we were little, the team chemistry was already there and now it’s just a matter of staying positive and working together.” The girls are looking to continue their perfect record today, April 6th, at 4:15 against Commack on our home field.
