On Saturday, February 20th, the Ward Melville girls 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams competed at the Millrose Games at the Armory Track in New York City. The 109th annual running of the meet was attended by the top qualifying runners from the city and Long Island, along with a plethora of collegiate and professional runners from around the country.

The girls 4x400m team, consisting of Hannah Hobbes, Samantha Rutt, Madison Hobbes and Allyson Gaedje, placed 2nd behind Uniondale in the Long Island high school girls’ 4×400 race, with a time of 4:00.99. The 4x800m team, of Samantha Sturgess, Allyson Gaedje, Shannon Ryan and 8th grader Elizabeth Radke, finished their race in 9:34.21.

Though neither team won, these were phenomenal times for runners between just 8th and 11th grade who will anchor this team for years to come. Next year they will look to return to Millrose and finish what they started.
